Important GSTN Advisory on Invoice Management System (IMS)
The GSTN has issued an advisory clarifying that there’s no change in GST return filing or ITC auto-population due to the new Invoice Management System (IMS).
Here are the key points that you have to keep in mind:
There is No Change in Auto-Population of ITC. Input Tax Credit (ITC) will continue to auto-populate from GSTR-2B to GSTR-3B without any manual intervention.
GSTR-2B Generation Remains Unchanged. GSTR-2B will still be generated automatically on the 14th of every month. Taxpayers can take actions in IMS and regenerate GSTR-2B if needed.
New Flexibility in Credit Note Handling with effect from October 2025.
Recipients can now:
– Keep Credit Notes pending for a specified period
– Accept Credit Notes and manually adjust ITC reversals
– Reduce ITC only to the extent of its availment
The advisory aims to clarify misconceptions and provide guidance on the IMS implementation. For more information, visit the GSTN website.
